The maths behind your rating
Your average rating is the sum of all star values divided by the number of reviews, and most platforms display it rounded to one decimal while rounding the star graphic to the nearest half. That rounding is why the practical targets are 4.5, 4.7 and 4.9 rather than arbitrary numbers - crossing a display threshold changes what a buyer sees at a glance even when the underlying change is small. Knowing the arithmetic turns a vague goal into a countable one.
