How RHAWK handles it

How the recommendation filter works

Yelp's software hides reviews from accounts with little activity, no photo or a burst of reviews for one business. Filtered reviews do not count toward your rating. The fix is a natural flow from real Yelp users over time, not a push campaign - and knowing which of your reviews are filtered so you stop chasing ghosts.

Monitoring and fast replies

New Yelp reviews trigger an alert with an AI-drafted response in your voice. You approve, we open the reply pre-filled in Yelp's own console, so nothing is posted through an unofficial channel.

Growing reviews without breaking rules

Yelp bans asking for reviews, so RHAWK uses Yelp-safe visibility - a check-in-friendly profile, complete listing data, photos and responsiveness - while directing your active review requests to Google, Facebook and trade directories where asking is allowed.

Yelp in the bigger picture

Your RHAWK Score weighs Yelp alongside Google, BBB, Angi, Houzz and Nextdoor, so a filtered Yelp page does not define your reputation - and you can see exactly how much of your visibility Yelp represents.

How it works

1. Claim and complete

We check your Yelp page for missing hours, categories, service areas and photos that suppress visibility.

2. Respond fast

Alerts and AI drafts get every review answered within a day.

3. Diversify

Active requests go to platforms that permit them, so total review volume grows compliantly.

The complete guide to yelp

Yelp plays by different rules

Yelp prohibits asking customers for reviews - not just incentivised asks, but any solicitation - and enforces it with a recommendation software that filters reviews it judges unnatural. This is the single most misunderstood fact in review management. A business that runs the same request campaign to Yelp as it does to Google will watch reviews get filtered into the 'not currently recommended' section, where they do not count toward the rating and are effectively invisible.

What you can do instead

You can make yourself findable and worth reviewing on Yelp: claim the listing, keep hours, categories, service area, menu or price range and photos current, respond to every review publicly and promptly, and use Yelp's own check-in and messaging features. Passive prompts - a Yelp sticker in the window, a badge on your site - are permitted where direct asks are not. The rest comes from being visible enough that Yelp's active reviewer base finds you.

Understanding the filter

Reviews from accounts with little history, no photo, no friends and a single review are the most likely to be filtered, regardless of whether they are genuine. That is why a burst of reviews from new accounts after a campaign is worse than useless. Filtered reviews sometimes surface later as the reviewer builds account history. There is no way to appeal the filter, and any vendor claiming to un-filter reviews is not describing something Yelp permits.

Replying on Yelp

Yelp does not offer review reply posting through a public API, so RHAWK drafts the reply and deep-links you into the correct Yelp screen for a one-tap paste rather than pretending to auto-post. Use both tools Yelp gives you: the public comment for the audience and the direct message for the customer. Keep public replies short and non-defensive - Yelp's reviewer community reacts badly to combative owners, and that reaction becomes its own reputation problem.

Where Yelp fits in the wider program

For most local businesses Yelp is important but secondary to Google, and the right allocation of effort reflects that: full compliance and prompt responses on Yelp, active generation on Google and your trade directories. RHAWK monitors your Yelp rating, review count and filtered-review movement alongside every other source, so the platform stays covered without consuming a disproportionate share of your attention or putting your listing at risk.

Frequently asked questions

Can you ask customers for Yelp reviews?

No. Yelp's terms prohibit soliciting reviews, and detected campaigns can trigger a consumer alert on your page. Ask on Google and other permitted platforms instead, and let Yelp reviews come organically.

Why are my Yelp reviews not showing?

They were filtered as not recommended - usually because the reviewer's account is new, has no photo or has few other reviews. They stay visible behind a link but do not count toward your rating.

Can you remove a bad Yelp review?

Only Yelp can, and only if it violates their content guidelines - such as a conflict of interest or a review of the wrong business. RHAWK prepares the report with the supporting evidence.

Does replying to Yelp reviews help?

Yes. Yelp shows response rate and response time on your profile, and public replies measurably influence readers deciding between you and a competitor.

Does Yelp affect Apple Maps?

Yelp data has historically fed Apple Maps and other surfaces, so a weak Yelp page reduces visibility beyond Yelp itself.
